Mateo Kovacic believes City thoroughly deserved our 2-0 FA Cup semi-final victory over Nottingham Forest after an impressive overall display at Wembley Stadium.
Rico Lewis scored a splendid goal after just two minutes to hand us an important lead, before Josko Gvardiol make it two shortly after the half-time interval.
Forest came close on multiple occasions but saw three efforts crash off the woodwork in the second period.
Pep Guardiola's men dominated the contest for large parts following an energetic opening 25 minutes, boasting 67% possession and having six shots on target, compared to only one for Forest.
Speaking in an interview after the game, the Croatian said:
"I think it was a deserved win for us. From the first minute we started well scoring the goal with Rico, dominating and getting a few chances.
"We didn’t put the game to bed but in the end they’re a strong team, they came back and had a few chances. But I think it’s a deserved win and we are happy to be in another final."We just found ourselves again. The team is getting stronger. Everyone is 100% focused. A lot of players came back very strong so that’s important. When we’re all back we’re a strong team.
"Unfortunately the season has not been how we wanted but we’re still in a FA Cup final and in the top four, so it’s good. We want to finish in a strong way."
Despite winning four UEFA Champions League titles, one Premier League title and four UEFA Super Cup crowns, amongst many trophies in his career, Kovacic has never had a FA Cup winners' medal and the midfielder is keen to change that this season.
"I’ve lost a few!" he said.
"But I’m happy that I can be here again tonight, it’s a pleasure to play at Wembley so another final.
"I hope this time we can take it home."
