FC Barcelona secured another three points in the UEFA Champions League, beating Serbian side Red Star Belgrade 5-2 on their home ground.

These five goals in the match brought Barcelona’s total tally in the UEFA Champions League to over 700, with Robert Lewandowski scoring the club’s 700th goal.

The Polish striker was also on the verge of a personal milestone, as his two goals on the night brought his tally in the competition to 99.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the veteran Barcelona striker also spoke to the media after the game, expressing his happiness with his side’s victory in a difficult match and with the club reaching 700 goals in the UEFA Champions League.

“Yes, it’s a historic milestone, and I’m very happy. As a forward, it’s not easy to play against these types of compact defenses; we need a bit of patience to find the open space. As a team, we played very well, and in the end, we managed to get the win.”

Lewandowski recapped his team’s performance in this game: “We wanted to score quickly. At the beginning, we played a bit slowly, but in the second half, we picked up the pace a bit and were able to score three more goals.”

The Pole commented that the last two games have been quite difficult for him but he has been looking for goals patiently:

“No, I focus on the goals; I’m happy because I have scoring opportunities. Sometimes there’s a lack of precision, or other times you score on the first chance that comes. The last two games haven’t been easy for me, but my job is sometimes just that—to create space in the box and have patience.”

Barcelona have been in very good form lately, but the Polish superstar wanted to keep his feet on the ground:

“We have a goal, and we’re all playing very well and in sync. There are many games ahead, and we need to be aware of what we can improve. This weekend brings a new match and another opportunity to get better.”

As Lewandowski commented, despite their good form, one task for Barcelona now would be to avoid complacency and focus on things that they can improve even further.

But there is no doubt that the results have been going in their favor, and if they continue playing like this, their chances of winning silverware at the end of the season look quite bright.
