Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn says that his side are ready to test themselves again after their 4-0 Adobe Women’s FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United at the weekend.

Spurs will have had just three days to mull over that loss before Chelsea arrive at the Gaughan Group Stadium in Leyton on Wednesday evening.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Spurs boss Vilahamn said that the team are already looking forward to their next test.

“Every game is important to us, especially against the top teams because we want to learn how to play good football against them and see if we can close that gap,” Vilahamn said.

“We had a really good game with Chelsea in the first game of the season and now it’s the penultimate game of the season. It’ll be fun to see how we can compete against them because when they have a good day, they’re probably one of the top four teams in the world. We want to compete and try to go for the win but we need to also accept that we will need to defend as well.

“It’s going to be a fun game to play and hopefully, we can get a good result and performance.”

Spurs’ Wembley defeat to Manchester United will have taken its toll on the squad both mentally and physically but Vilahamn believes that his side can find fresh energy for the challenge of Chelsea.

He said “In one way, it’s good that this game comes so soon after the last one because you want to play and see if you can get back on track, that’s the easy part.

“Chelsea at home is a big game for us, so mentally and physically, it is not too much to recover and go into this game.

“They will have had a long training week which is good for them but we train to play two games a week and we should be able to do it. Hopefully, we find new energy tomorrow and have a good performance. We also have a big squad, so we can find ways during the game to make sure we have good energy.

“Hopefully, we can use the loss at the weekend to make sure that we have even more energy to go and beat Chelsea tomorrow.”

Spurs were backed by more than 11,000 fans at Wembley. Vilahamn is pleased to see the fanbase grow in parallel with the team this season.

He said “You saw the power of Tottenham Hotspur’s fans at the weekend. We heard them, we saw them, they were everywhere, supporting us all the way. I’m not sure how many will come tomorrow and Saturday but I definitely feel like we are growing together. If we can have two good games, we will have had the greatest first season that we could have had I would say.

“The main thing is to grow with the fans and we have shown that. We want to win titles, compete and play good football but for me, it is equally as important to bring fans to the stadium and the big stages.

“I’m proud that we have grown with the fans this year; they give us the love and we give them the love. I feel like this is for real and hopefully, we will have two good games together.”
