The 33-year-old Celtic legend has now won 13 league titles, seven Scottish Cups and six League Cups, and hopes to make it 27 winners medals in total on 24 May in the Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen at Hampden Park.
Hopefully Jamesy’s visit to his fellow Ayrshireman happens alongside a Celtic TV film crew so that the support can get a chance to see these two legends interact and there’s going to be no-one more pleased for Jamesy than the Buzzbomb himself because he knows the superb effort that it takes to be so relentless in pursuit of success for Celtic over decades.
Callum McGregor is also closing in on Bobby’s total and depending on when one-club man Jamesy hangs up his boots, the Celtic captain could be motivated to play for a few years beyond Forrest’s retirement to take the accolade for himself.

For now Calmac would rather concentrate on the magnitude of the achievement that James Forrest has delivered for himself and more importantly for the player, for Celtic. The Celtic captain had this to say about his great friend and teammate after Celtic’s 5-0 win over Dundee United delivered the title and pushed James Forrest ahead of the legendary Lisbon Lion.
“For somebody so humble and to have come through the Academy, for the young lads who are in the Academy now it should be a huge shot in the arm for them to watch that. There have been so many special players who have played for this club over the years, and now James sits there on the top, and it couldn’t happen to a better person – the way he dedicates his life to football and Celtic.
“It’s an amazing achievement for him and his family. They’ll be so proud of them and like I said, it’s a big shot in the arm for the players in the Academy. It shows you that there’s a platform there and you’ve just got to keep working, but this is for James,” Calmac said.

Callum McGregor now has 24 medals, just two behind Jamesy and that of course means that the pair have a remarkable 50 winners medals between them.
“I think sometimes it gets lost on you because you’re just in the middle of the battle and you want to keep winning and keep doing as well as you can and keep pushing the team, so sometimes it does get lost, the magnitude of what we’ve achieved in probably a short space of time as well.
“So we can enjoy that together. We were speaking about it in the dressing room after the game, and we are really proud of what we’ve achieved and the success that we’ve given the club. But the focus will very quickly turn to the next four games and then the cup final after that, and we want to finish what has been a brilliant season with three trophies.”

Relentless in the pursuit of glory. No wonder Brendan Rodgers at the weekend called it a Golden Era for Celtic.
Here’s Callum McGregor speaking to Celtic TV at Tannadice on Saturday afternoon as Celtic secured the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership title with four games still to be played and with Barry Ferguson having reduced Celtic’s lead from 13 points down to 17…Twenty’s plenty on Sunday Barry!
