With four goals from eight Serie A games, Timothy Weah is surprisingly proving to be one of Juventus’ most prolific players this season, and coach Thiago Motta’s tactical choices are arguably a key contributor to his player’s unprecedented inspiration in the last third.
Weah’s opener in Juventus’ 2-0 win over Torino means that he’s already reached his best-ever domestic goal tally in a single season, as he had never scored more than three league goals when playing for Lille or Celtic.

Also, the 24-year-old made 30 Serie A appearances last season under Massimiliano Allegri without finding the net, and he explained that he’s now playing in a ‘more attacking role now’, as Motta deploys him as an offensive right-winger in his 4-2-3-1 formation.
Weah has found three of his four goals of the season in his last four Serie A games, as he returned from injury to become a key piece to Motta’s system.
The former Bologna coach started using the USMNT star with regularity in the trio behind striker Dusan Vlahovic, either on the right or the left flank, picking him over players like Kenan Yildiz or Francisco Conceição.
Thanks to past experiences as a wing-back or even a full-back, Weah can provide solid defensive coverage when required but is also able to carry a threat when involved in the offensive play with his runs at the far post, which resulted in goals against Inter and Torino.
With a net every 112 minutes, no Juventus player boasts a better goal average than Weah in Serie A, and everything suggests he’s becoming an irreplaceable player for Thiago Motta thanks to his unique versatility and set of skills.
