It was a rather woeful night for FC Barcelona as they dropped three points to Real Sociedad in their last La Liga match on Sunday. The Blaugranes were far from their best in this game, and could not even muster a shot on target.
On the other hand, Real Sociedad came up with a courageous game plan to counter the Catalan team, which has otherwise looked unstoppable this season.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, one of the Barcelona midfielders, Pedri Gonzalez, also recognized the highly effective game plan of La Real, as he spoke to the media after the game:
“We knew it was a tough stadium, where Real put on a lot of pressure. Even so, I had a chance; Rafa had another… We need to learn from our mistakes and keep going.”
“Real press very well; sometimes they go man-to-man, which makes it very difficult. In the second half, we started better, but it didn’t last long. We didn’t know how to get out.”
Despite this loss, the 21-year-old midfielder was quite confident that his team would be able to bounce back from this poor showing after the international break:
“We’re still in first place. This is just a one-off. In the next game after the break, we’ll bounce back. I hope the lack of accuracy in front of goal is just a one-day thing; I’m not worried because we’re doing well in attack.”
Hopefully, this will be the case, as FC Barcelona have already lost some of their lead at the top of the league table to Real Madrid. Currently, the Blaugranes stand six points clear of their main rivals, but the Merengues have a game in hand, as their match against Valencia was postponed.
