West Ham United are looking to sign a new defender, and they have earmarked Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Adam Webster as a potential option.

According to Jack Rosser of The Sun, Webster is one of the defenders the Hammers are considering this month.

The 30-year-old is a vastly experienced Premier League defender who has played under Graham Potter when he was in charge at Brighton.

The new Hammers boss now wants to bring him to the London Stadium in the January window, but he is just one of the many targets for the Hammers.

Webster, who is on £55k-per-week wages at the Amex Stadium, has 18 months remaining on his current deal, with Brighton having the option to extend his contract to another year.

Rosser wrote on X: “Brighton’s Adam Webster one of the defenders West Ham are considering this month. 18 months left on his deal, though Brighton have an option to extend. ”

While bolstering the forward department is Potter’s first priority in this window, he could still look to sign a new centre-back, especially if Jean-Clair Todibo leaves the club.

West Ham signed Max Kilman and Todibo in the summer transfer window, but they have still conceded 43 goals in the Premier League this season.

Webster joined Brighton in the summer of 2019 from Bristol City and has made over 145 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals.

He has a wealth of Premier League experience and could still play at the top level for a few years easily. Given his contract situation, he could be available at a decent price.

West Ham are also looking to sign a new striker this month, and they are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Andre Silva on loan.
