West Ham are in talks over a deal to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham on a free transfer.

Foderingham, who started 29 of the relegated side’s Premier League matches last season, is out of contract at Bramall Lane this summer and appeals to the Hammers as an experienced head who would also add to their quota of homegrown players.

The 33-year-old would come in to act as cover to Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski, with last season’s third-choice Joseph Anang set to be released at the end of his deal.

Areola, who is part of France’s squad for Euro 2024, became the club’s Premier League No1 at the start of last season after two years as Fabianski’s understudy and cup keeper.

Fabianski turned 39 last month and was initially due to be out of contract himself this summer, but the Pole remains a reliable deputy and had his deal extended by a further year midway through the campaign.

With West Ham missing out on European football for the first time since 2020/21, however, new Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui faces a challenge to keep both keepers involved.

At least one of Nathan Trott and Krisztian Hegyi, both of whom spent last season out on loan, is likely to leave this summer.
