Hammers battle back from early setback but things are still not clicking for Julen Lopetegui
It was a disastrous start for the Hammers, who were behind after just 37 seconds when Bryan Mbeumo volleyed home for the hosts.
But while that lead lasted until the 54th minute, it was eventually cancelled out by Tomas Soucek, who bundled in for 1-1.
Standard Sport’s Dom Smith was at the Gtech Community Stadium to rate the West Ham players’ performances…
Alphonse Areola 6
Made one important save, diving to his right to deny Yehor Yarmoliuk.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7
Played the first half as a right-back and then switched flanks at half-time. A good performance.
His first start league start for the Hammers. Fairly assured performance from the Frenchman.
Max Kilman 6
Decent enough display at centre-back as he partnered Todibo in the backline.
Emerson 5
Solid if unspectacular, but Julen Lopetegui felt a change was needed and hooked the Italian at the interval.
Tomas Soucek 7
So often pops up with big goals for the Hammers and did so again as he scraped home the equaliser.
Guido Rodriguez 5
Has not proven a shrewd signing as yet. Another difficult afternoon for the Argentine.
Jarrod Bowen 6
Not his most effective display. Has not had a barnstorming start to the season.
Struggled to make an impact and then seen shaking his head as he came off.
Mohammed Kudus 6
Some nice touches in the first half, but never came back out the tunnel for the second.
Michail Antonio 5
Back in the team after a rest in midweek, but this just wasn’t the striker’s afternoon.
Substitutions
Konstantinos Mavropanos (Emerson, 46’) 6
Played in the unfamiliar position of right-back and did okay.
Carlos Soler (Kudus, 46’) 5
The second of two half-time substitutes brought on by Lopetegui. Still yet to get up to speed in the Premier League.
