Sacha Tavolieri on Sky Sport Switzerland has reported that West Ham United are looking into the upcoming summer transfer window as a time to buy a striker and have turned their attention to the LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David. However, it is not going to be easy for the hammers given that they will face a sheer amount of competition from the likes of Barcelona for his services.

David has been an integral part of the Lille team for quite some time and has been scoring goals consistently for fun. Even in this season, he has been performing very well. David has scored 13 goals in 22 matches so far in the Ligue 1 2024/2025 season. Overall, David’s goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.67. Moreover, his total G/A (goals + assists) is 16 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.82 per 90 minutes. His non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.33.

Lille wanted to tie him to a new contract given that he has been so important for them. However, David wants to try a new challenge, and definitely playing in the Premier League will be an attraction for him. Niclas Fullkrug has not been in his best form for West Ham, and Evan Ferguson will make his way back to Brighton & Hove Albion after the season ends. So, Graham Potter wants his club to sign David on a Bosman move.

Good choice for the Hammers?

David, the Canadian striker for Lille, is a refined forward with a mixture of technical skill and clinical finishing. Known for his composure under pressure, he excels at finding space in the box and converting chances with precision. His quick acceleration and intelligent movement off the ball make him a constant threat, while his two-footedness adds unpredictability to his play.

David’s vision and passing ability shine in link-up play, enabling him to create as well as score. He is very good at holding off defenders, showcasing resilience and a high footballing IQ that define his modern striker profile. Therefore, he will definitely be a good choice for West Ham. However, Barcelona stands on their path. It remains to be seen what happens finally.
