In May, it looked as if he was almost certain to sign for Barcelona on a free at the end of his contract at Real Betis, who are now top of the table in La Liga. Guido Rodriguez ended up signing for West Ham United in the summer in the end though, and finds himself just five points above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

It is unfamiliar territory for the World Cup-winner, but he may not be there much longer. Diario AS say that West Ham are not ruling out an exit for Rodriguez in the winter transfer window. Despite signing a deal until 2027, if an offer comes in for the right price, or a loan with a fee (to cover his signing bonus), the Hammers are open to letting him go. His future is linked to that of manager Julen Lopetegui, who is on thin ice.

They point out that Betis could be in the market for a midfielder again following the injury to William Carvalho, and the 30-year-old could return back to Seville. That said the cost might get in the way of any move. Rodriguez maintained until the end he was open to continuing at the Benito Villamarin.

It might make more sense for them this summer, if indeed Johnny Cardoso does leave as many predict. Tottenham Hotspur have a €25m purchase clause on Cardoso, who replaced Rodriguez in the Betis side, but if they do bring in that money for the USMNT international, then that would perhaps open the door to a return. In addition to Barcelona and his links to Betis, Atletico Madrid have been linked to him in the past.
