Sheffield United extended their dominant home form with a resounding 3-0 victory over Oxford United at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening. The win not only marked their seventh consecutive home triumph without conceding but also propelled them to the top of the Championship table on 35 points, before being knocked down a place after Leeds United’s 3-0 win against Luton Town.

The Blades wasted no time asserting their authority, breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute. Jack Robinson launched a long throw-in into the box, where Harry Souttar expertly flicked it to the back post. Tyrese Campbell showcased his awareness, cutting the ball across to Callum O’Hare for a simple tap-in marking a memorable first goal for the club.

Sixteen minutes later, Campbell was back in the spotlight, this time as the scorer. Gustavo Hamer, exploiting space in the number ten position, delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Campbell, who timed his run brilliantly. With composure, the striker rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into an empty net.

The third goal was a testament to Sheffield United’s flair and teamwork. In a crowded area, Sam McCallum checked inside and found Vinícius Souza in space 25 yards out. The Brazilian cleverly faked a shot, deceiving the defence, and used the underside of his foot to roll the ball to Hamer. The midfielder threaded a pinpoint pass to Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who spun elegantly inside the penalty area and finished off a beautifully crafted team move.

Sheffield United Boss Reflects on 3-0 Win Against Oxford United

Speaking after the game to SUTV, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder reflected on the performance and yet another win at Bramall Lane: “We would have took a win from the start. I’ve been involved in too many games and managed too many games to know that these are the games that are really important. Last home game took care of itself, Friday will take care of itself, but Tuesday night and it’s a little bit cold and everyone expects you to win but you’ve got to go and get the job done and we did.”

He added, “We would have took that at the start of the season. I don’t know where that’s taken us in terms of league position. We’ve got to embrace that, we want to win games of football, I’ve said before when success comes to you and the door opens be ready to step in to it. We’ve rather be in this position than halfway up the league. Home form has been fabulous, has been key.”

Chris Wilder on Femi Seriki’s Performance vs Oxford

With the emerging talents such as Oliver Arblaster and Sydie Peck, it’s easy to forget that Femi Seriki is another one of those outstanding young players produced by the famed Sheffield United academy. Having been heavily involved as a substitution role this season, making eight sub appearances, the attacking full-back was given his first start of the campaign on Tuesday evening, and he certainly took his chance to impress.

Seriki was given the club’s Man of The Match award having recorded four successful tackles and four clearances, 11 of 13 total duels won, as well as completing 68 out of 69 passes, and five of six dribbles.

His link-up play, overlapping runs and attacking flair could be something the Blades see more of over the coming weeks due to the congested fixture list.

Chris Wilder heaped praise on Seriki in his interview: “He was good. He was confident, he was positive. He’s going to learn. He’s good at running, he’s good at running with the ball. He’s good at driving at people and when he does that he gets people off their seats. We’ve got a couple of good players there now, Femi who can take the ball forward, Alfie’s obviously been our main right-back and contributed to our brilliant defensive record. We’ve got a good mix there.”
