In an interview with France Bleu, Yann M’Vila (34) revealed his thoughts on SM Caen’s season after they were relegated from Ligue 2 to the non-professional divisions of French football.

The club, partly owned by Kylian Mbappé (25), have suffered a dismal season in the second tier of French football. Caen are confirmed to finish bottom of the table, with it being mathematically impossible for them to finish above Clermont Foot, who occupy 17th. Les Vikings are on 21 points and Les Lanciers have 29 points, with only 2 games of the season remaining.

M’Vila signed for the Ligue 2 club in the summer transfer window after becoming a free agent. Before becoming a free agent, the former Sunderland midfielder played for West Bromwich Albion in the EFL Championship. After returning to France, the 34-year-old will have hoped to help the club bounce back to Ligue 1 after being relegated last season, but it couldn’t have gone much worse as they suffer back-to-back relegations.

Summarising the Northern French club’s season, M’Vila said, “We’re not going to lie to ourselves, we’re where we belong. We’ve had a chaotic season, a shitty season. A club like Caen finishing last in Ligue 2 means the players are shit. I’ve never seen anything like that.”
