8-2, 3-0, 3-0, 2-0, 3-0 – These were the scorelines of the last five games between Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona before last night. Over the years, this has become a monkey on the back of the Catalan club that they just haven’t been able to get rid of.

However, Hansi Flick’s men put in a performance for the ages against Bayern Munich, ending up 4-1 winners on the night. A hattrick from Raphinha and a goal from Robert Lewandowski saw Barcelona put the German giants to the sword.

One player who had an incredible display against Bayern and even chipped in with a sublime assist was Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old was running rings around Alphonso Davies and Serge Gnabry and should have ended the game with at least one more assist.

After the game, Lamine made no attempts to hide the desire to get that win against Bayern. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the teenager explained how much the win meant to the team. He said:

“We really wanted to win against Bayern. It was very important to beat Bayern 4-1 in a very important week. We’re doing very well this season, but there’s always the worry of what will happen in the Champions League. We’re a great team and we’ve shown that.”

Against Bayern, Lamine was one of the protagonists of the victory. His ability to play out under pressure was essential in beating Kompany’s team’s first line of press and he played a role that he hasn’t played much before.

Lamine dropped extremely deep against the Bundesliga giants to link up play and was often seen positioning himself alongside or even deeper than Jules Kounde. It was essential for the team to bypass Bayern’s pressure and impose themselves.

At this point, the 17-year-old’s consistency every week has become routine for Barcelona fans. Any other youngster putting in a performance like Lamine did against Bayern would get talked about for years but the Spaniard has grown beyond that kind of recognition.

Lamine will be itching to keep going in a similar vein against Real Madrid in El Clasico. Should they manage to do that, it will be an excellent week for Barcelona, and let’s wait and see if we get the three points against our league rivals.
