What does new Ibrox CEO Patrick Stewart mean for Rangers? | OneFootball

Ibrox Noise are not going to make any judgement at all on new CEO Patrick Stewart, other than noting that he presided as a mere interim at Old Trafford for once year during an especially bad period for Man Utd.

His CV prior to that ‘promotion’ reads a lot of Man Utd involvement with many noting the 18 years he spent there – the curious part there is he was there prior to the club collapsing – for 13 years he was, as a qualified barrister, Utd’s head legal and this was well before Sir Alex left. This was a strong period for Utd.

He then got a promotion to the board at Old Trafford, then in 2022 he became executive director, and deputy CEO, before getting the interim top job in 2023. Unfortunately he was then fired by the new boss Ratcliffe who clearly wanted his own men in position.

So is this guy of the right stuff.

As we said we cannot make a judgement on Stewart – all we can say is we’d never heard of him, and his CV looks decent enough – we suppose you don’t get into the exalted positions he got to at Utd without being good.

But the higher he got was based on the club in its decline – Utd have been a mess since Sir Alex left and it’s not one to boast about being part of that deteriorating environment.

They’re on about their 18th manager in two minutes in Amorim, who is already struggling after his first match – that’s a club, like Rangers, that feels like a basket case.

All Stewart has done is swap one basket case for another.

We will give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but we’re not sure what difference he will make to anything really. Rangers haven’t had a good CEO in… ever?

Martin Bain, Charles Green, Llambias, Stewart Robertson then Bisgrove – it’s not really been quality in that post.

If Stewart can buck that trend it would be handy.
