Yunus Musah was put through the wringer tonight, hauled off after a nightmare 24 minutes, distraught and consoled until he had a moving hug with Milan coach Sergio Conceicao.

The USMNT midfielder had a disastrous start to the Serie A match against Fiorentina at San Siro.

His awful first touch in the final third allowed the Viola to take the lead, when Malick Thiaw accidentally bundled the Albert Gudmundsson cross into his own net on seven minutes.

Just three minutes later, Musah’s defending also left a lot to be desired when Dodo found Moise Kean to volley in the second goal.

Conceicao turned to his staff on 21 minutes and pulled the emergency cord, making a tactical substitution with Luka Jovic preparing to replace Musah, although it could only be completed after Tammy Abraham got a goal back for Milan.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Musah was distraught at the lack of confidence and went straight down the tunnel.

Conceicao was worried about the American and sent first Alessandro Florenzi, then Strahinja Pavlovic, into the dressing room to console him.

After circa 10 minutes, it seemed to pay off, because the player returned to the bench with the rest of his teammates and had a warm hug with Conceicao.

Sky Sport Italia also claim that the coach told his staff and players “it was my fault” that Musah had been put in a situation where he struggled so badly.

This is not the first time Musah has been hauled off during the first half by Conceicao, because he lasted 36 minutes against Lazio on March 2, when replaced by Joao Felix.
