An insight into the stance of Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola when it comes to the potential return of Barcelona’s İlkay Gündoğan has on Monday been provided.

The name of midfielder Gündoğan has of course taken its place front and centre in the chatter in Catalunya and Manchester alike over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after, first, word was forthcoming that the Barcelona brass had come to the shock decision to part ways with the German international.

As much was then followed in turn by Gündoğan’s former club, Man City, being tipped as a potential landing spot for the 33-year-old.

As revealed by the reliable Sam Lee of The Athletic, considered the go to when it comes to Sky Blues news, those behind the scenes are equally as keen on the prospect of a reunion as Gündoğan himself.

Pep Guardiola, in particular, would be ‘happy’ to have the midfield creator back at his disposal, having never wanted Gündoğan to leave last summer in the first place.

In turn, the move is considered by Lee to be something of a ‘no-brainer’, albeit with it noted that:

‘Whether it actually happens or not depends on a few factors, and dealing with Barcelona never seems to be easy, even when — as in this case — they want to let a player go.’
