Birmingham City are still in the midst of takeover uncertainty and that will be frustrating for the Midlands outfit’s supporters who want to see off-field uncertainty come to an end.

However, this lack of clarity hasn’t had too much of a negative impact on the pitch, with John Eustace exceeding all expectations to guide the Championship side to 15th in the division, a respectable position considering many had tipped the club to be relegated before the start of the season.

In terms of off-field matters, Laurence Bassini seemingly re-entered the race with the former Watford chairman telling talkSPORT reporter Jim White that a deal was near to being complete and in the hands of the solicitors.

Nothing concrete has materialised since then though, with alternative potential investors Maxi Lopez and Paul Richardson still reported to be in the race despite delays seemingly holding up their deal to take Vong Pech’s 21.64% stake before gaining full ownership of the club in the coming years.

The pair already put down a £1.5m deposit back in July to take the shareholder’s minority stake – but an EFL investigation into the club’s ownership is a potential hurdle in their quest to finalise a deal – with the potential future shareholders having no control over this process.

And there was a political intervention last week when the Mayor of West Midlands Andy Street wrote to the EFL, criticising the club’s lack of communication regarding the takeover process and even went as far as saying the club was in real danger under its current ownership.

Clarity is still missing though and it’s currently unclear when the football governing body will finalise its investigation and whether this will have any impact on whether Richardson and Lopez can go ahead with their deal to take control of the second-tier side.

Lopez still seems to be firmly invested in the Blues though, celebrating an exceptional point against Burnley last week as he took to Twitter to express his delight.

At this stage though, they aren’t official shareholders of the club and that will frustrate many supporters.
