Both Milan and Inter could face significant fines and in the worst case, could potentially be hit with a disqualification from Serie A, depending on an FIGC investigation into the arrests of several ultras connected to the two clubs on Monday morning, according to the latest updates.

Reports on Monday morning confirmed that 19 people, including several Inter and Milan ultras, have been arrested. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, 16 have been jailed and a further three have been placed under house arrest.

The investigation started at the beginning of September, following the murder of Antonio Bellocco, a leading member of Inter’s Curva Nord group, which resulted in the arrest of fellow Nerazzurri ultra Andrea Beretta.

Some of the alleged crimes include the extortion of tickets and drinks sales, as well as other instances of organised crime and mafia-related methods in and around San Siro.

What risks Milan and Inter could face after FIGC investigation

According to updates from La Repubblica and Calciomercato.com, FIGC Prosecutor Giuseppe Chine has requested access to some of the documents that led to the arrest of the ultras from the Milan federal prosecutor’s office.

The following reports suggest that the FIGC want to look into any potential involvement by either Milan or Inter, which could fall under the governing body’s jurisdiction.

The Italian federation’s laws state that no member or executive are permitted to have any form of relationship with groups that do not have a formal agreement or pre-existing relationship with the club.

If either Milan or Inter are found to have any dealings or agreements with unauthorised groups, they will face a fine of €20,000 and in the most extreme scenario, could face disqualification from the league, although that could also come in the form of a suspended sentence.
