Paris Saint-Germain rallied from an early deficit to beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Wednesday night at Parc des Princes, scoring three straight goals to seize control of the tie before the second leg.
PSG’s talent eventually took over, but Unai Emery’s decisions for Aston Villa will likely come under scrutiny after the visitors let their strong start slip away. Villa opened the scoring, but Desire Doue leveled things just before halftime to swing the momentum.
After the break, it was all PSG. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put them ahead early in the second half, and Nuno Mendes added a late goal to give the French side a comfortable cushion heading into the return leg.
Over in Spain, Barcelona made a statement of their own, cruising to a dominant 4-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund to take firm control of their quarterfinal.

The Netherlands’ national team manager, Ronald Koeman, analyzed the Spanish club’s win over the German side and noted that Dortmund wasted their scoring chances, something Arsenal and PSG won’t do (h/t Foot01).
“There are other teams playing at the same level as Barça, like Paris Saint-Germain. There’s also Arsenal, who we saw against Real Madrid and who are capable of winning the Champions League. Barça’s style of play is enjoyable to watch. But we have to acknowledge that Dortmund are eighth in the German league.”
“They’re not a great team, and yet they still created chances against Barça. I think the 4-0 scoreline is a bit exaggerated. If you’re playing against Dortmund — who, to me, aren’t a European powerhouse at the moment because they’re eighth in Germany — and they manage to create five clear scoring opportunities, that’s a sign that some things still need to be improved.”
