With the World Cup taking place in Australia and New Zealand, plenty of fans around the world will be in bed when some of the games take place.

Quick, what were the results?

Sweden scored three goals in the final six minutes of the first half before going on to beat Italy 5-0 and seal a place in the last 16.

France and Brazil put on a show, with Eugénie Le Sommer and Wendie Renard scoring either side of a Debinha equaliser.

Jamaica won a Women’s World Cup match for the first time ever to knock Panama out.

Of the day? How about match of the tournament. At least so far.

The level on show in France’s win over Brazil was as good as we’ve been treated to Down Under to date.

France raced out of the blocks, keen to make up for their disappointing 0-0 draw with Jamaica, and took a deserved lead as Le Sommer scored her 90th international goal.

That goal seemed to kick Debinha into gear and she inspired Brazil into action, sparking attacks before the break and scoring after it.

Everything was very end-to-end from there but it was a set-piece (and, of course, Renard on the end of it) who finally netted the winner to send France top of the group with one game left to play.

And a Player of the Day for me?

A few stick out but we have to turn to Sweden centre-back Amanda Ilestedt.

Having scored from a corner against South Africa, the defender was on hand to nod home the opener against Italy (against the run of play) and then repeat the trick shortly after half-time for a brace.

With three goals, the defender is now the unlikely joint-top scorer at the competition.

So, that’s Sweden through and France close. Panama are out and Brazil will go head-to-head with Jamaica next time out to see how joins France from Group F.

Elsewhere, England have confirmed Keira Walsh has not suffered an ACL injury but her World Cup remains in doubt.
