Pablo Maffeo and Vinicius Junior were involved in a fierce spat during Real Madrid’s opening La Liga game against Mallorca.

The Mallorca defender was in focus after his rash challenge on Vinicius, which many in the Real Madrid camp, believed could have easily drawn a red card.

Much to their disappointment, though, Maffeo was only handed a yellow card, sparking a post-match conversation on refereeing.

Pablo Maffeo on relationship with Vinicius

Maffeo’s tense relationship with Vinicius goes way back and this certainly wasn’t the first time the two of them had a spat in recent years.

In a recent media interaction, though, Maffeo has confirmed he has settled things with Vinicius and that they are on good terms now.

“My conversation with Vini? It was good to settle it for both of us. It was silly that we were arguing, it was not good for his image or mine. We have no problem, what stays on the field stays on the field,” he told GOL.

Maffeo heaps praise on Real Madrid quartet

Maffeo went on to talk about the Real Madrid quartet involving Vinicius, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and new signing Kylian Mbappe.

The former Stuttgart defender revealed he was anxious at facing the iconic quartet, stating, “When I saw them, I just prayed to God. It was nice, in the end everyone wanted to play against these players. Today I can’t even move.”

Following a heated affair in the opening match, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top when Real Madrid and Mallorca meet again later in the season.
