Newcastle are out to stop holders Liverpool

Following the conclusion of the Carabao Cup semi-finals, it is not long now before the first major piece of silverware available in English football this season is claimed.

Liverpool are the current holders, having won the competition last season thanks to an extra-time win over Chelsea.

They’re back in the final after roaring back against Tottenham. Following a 1-0 first-leg defeat away from home, the current Premier League leaders, won the return leg 4-0 to advance 4-1 on aggregate.

Joining the Reds in the showpiece will be Newcastle. In fact, the Magpies have now reached the Carabao Cup final twice in the last three seasons and will be looking to avenge their defeat to Manchester United in 2023.

Eddie Howe’s side comfortably dispatched Arsenal 4-0 on aggregate with Alexander Isak in imperious form across the two legs.

When is the Carabao Cup Final?

This year's final takes place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 16 March.

What time does it start?

As confirmed, kick-off will be at 4.30pm GMT.

How to watch

Sky Sports have exclusive broadcast rights to the Carabao Cup in the UK and ITV will also show the final.

Ticket information

Liverpool have received an allocation of 32,196 tickets, whilst Newcastle have been allocated 31,939 tickets for the final.

Tickets are priced at between £41-£150 for adults, depending on their location at Wembley.

Will VAR be in use?

Yes. VAR was in use for both semi-final ties and that will be the case for the final itself.

The first use of in-stadium VAR announcements in English football was trialled across all four semi-final fixtures and is set to return for the final.

Is there a train strike on the day of the final?

Yes. The RMT union has announced strike action affecting Avanti West Coast on Sundays from 12 January to 25 May 2025.

Customers have been advised to check before they travel.
