Amongst Gareth Taylor’s squad for this month’s pre-season tour of Australia are some Academy players hoping to impress.

City will play in the Perth International Football Cup while on tour, with our first assignment coming against Leicester City at HBF Park at 11:15 (UK).

Depending on the result of that game, we’ll face either Paris Saint-Germain or West Ham United at the same venue on Sunday 1 September.

Both matches will be live on CITY+ in the UK and specific regions around the world, which are still to be confirmed.

While Taylor has many of his senior players and internationally recognised stars to pick from, it’s also an opportunity for some youngsters who have shone in the Academy.

Last week we found out more about Naomi Layzell and Gracie Prior, after their professional deals.

Here we’ll take a look at the four players you may not recognise…

Sacha Lewis

16-year-old right-back Lewis will be looking to gain vital experience on tour and hopefully learn from Netherlands international Kerstin Casparij in the process.

Her progression has now seen her named in England’s preliminary squad for this autumn’s U17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

Lewis is the younger sister of Rico, who has shone for Pep Guardiola’s side in the last couple of seasons.

The defender describes her speed as her greatest attribute, while her passion for Thai boxing means she won’t be afraid to get stuck in.

Lily Murphy

Capable of playing anywhere across the front line, 18-year-old Murphy is also lightning quick.

So much so, she’s already represented her country at youth level in football and as a sprinter.

Having spent last season with a dual registration at Stoke City and receiving her England U19 call up in February, Murphy will be hoping to level up her experience on this tour.

A 2022 arrival at the City Football Academy, Murphy has already featured in a behind closed doors friendly for Taylor’s side.

Eve O’Carroll

O’Carroll is a 17-year-old midfielder capable of sitting in front of the defence or bursting into space to join the attack.

It takes a talented, composed player to perform in midfield for City and O’Carroll has demonstrated those abilities already in her Academy days.

Having played grassroots football until joining City in 2022, the youngster believes her best is still to come.

After spending last season with FC United of Manchester, she’s now got the opportunity to work alongside some of the finest midfielders in the world.

Codie Thomas

By far the longest serving of all the Academy players on tour, Thomas first walked through the gates at the CFA in 2016.

The 17-year-old right-back has also previously featured in a behind closed doors friendly for the senior side but regards this as her best opportunity so far to work with some highly experienced defenders.

A natural leader and eager to learn, Thomas will be hoping to absorb as much as she can.

The youngster spent last season in a dual registration with AFC Fylde.
