Since beating Tottenham, Leicester have seen three straight defeats. However, they will look to emerge with three points from the Brentford match. Ruud van Nistelrooy aims to will his side to its first positive February result. The month has come with a mixed bag. The FA Cup clash with United ended in controversy. Arsenal was close throughout a lot of the game, and Everton was a complete disaster.
The manager took a moment to not only offer words of encouragement but also offered a clear vision if the club is to maintain the goal of playing Premier League action come the next season.
Taking over midway through the year was always going to be difficult. And the current Leicester manager has seen some early glimpses of success. However, the overall on-field product is not consistently good enough, as reflected in their current standing in the table.
Between them, Ipswich Town and Wolves, it looks to be a tight race to end at 16th. But even if the results aren't falling as they would currently like, van Nistelrooy appears far from panicked or discouraged. He knows that the City's players have plenty of quality and heart to chip away from their current EPL place.
Unfortunately, that's not always enough. And this is especially true when multiple teams are fiercely fighting for coveted league positioning. This makes the manager's latest remarks somewhat unique. Van Nistelrooy acknowledged the admirable attributes of players on the current roster while also illustrating how he views his side can endure the place they find themselves in.
Speaking with reporters before the Friday match, the manager offered these words:
"Especially the players, the effort they put in deserves more but we also believe that if we keep going like this, luck will change, momentum will change and we’ll pick up points from there."Ruud Van Nistelrooy
The light at the end of the tunnel is well within sight for Leicester. And while fortune can't be everything, it's fair to say that so far the coin has flipped the other way from what they would have liked as of late.
At times, a coach needs to reassure his team that they are on the right track. Van Nistelrooy believes a correct offside call here, a touch more bend on a shot there, and the full set of points are well within hand.
It can too often be detrimentally demoralizing to show up to training and sit in a locker room before a game after suffering multiple consecutive defeats. Van Nistelrooy knows that true hope and encouragement are one of the best gifts he can give the players at this moment.
Brentford have exactly double the amount of points as Leicester at the moment. But a win at King Power Stadium would mean more than a regular victory. It would also further the belief the players have in their current manager and reinforce the belief that finishing clear of relegation is theirs for the taking.
