An explanation for the lack of minutes afforded to Real Madrid star Rodrygo in the club’s latest outing has been provided.

Real, of course, marked their return to action last night, making the trip to France for a Champions League meeting with LOSC Lille.

When all was said and done, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops were condemned to a shock defeat, owing to a solitary goal on the part of Jonathan David.

En route to as much, Los Blancos toiled in the attacking third, the likes of Endrick and Vinícius Jr. struggling to make a telling impact.

All the while, one of the Spanish champions’ key offensive stars remained glued to the bench, in the aforementioned Rodrygo.

So, why, with his side desperately searching for a goal on Wednesday, was the Brazilian international not introduced to the fray by Carlo Ancelotti?

As alluded to above, an explanation for as much has since been provided.

As per a report from Real Madrid insider Jorge C Picón of Relevo:

‘Rodrygo was not taken into account [versus Lille] due to back problems. He left the Metropolitano [on Sunday] injured.’
