Widzew Łódź president Mateusz Dróżdż confirmed the closure of the away sector until the end of the 2022/23 season, after Lech Poznań fans caused damage to it during and after their meeting on Sunday. According to one journalist, the repairs will reportedly cost the club in excess of 100,000 PLN.
Journalist Marcin Szypszak posted a series of tweets on Monday morning, highlighting the copious amounts of damage caused by Lech fans after their Ekstraklasa victory. According to him, there were also a number of hooligans of Widzew’s biggest rivals, ŁKS Łódź, who took part in causing the damage.
The closure of the sector until the end of the current campaign means that fans of Stal Mielec, Piast Gliwice, Górnik Zabrze and Korona Kielce will not be able to travel to Łódź to watch their teams’ meetings with Widzew.
Lech came from 1-0 down to defeat Widzew 2-1 on Sunday evening, with goals from Filip Marchwiński and Kristoffer Velde securing the three points for the Mistrz Polski.
Janusz Niedźwiedź’s Widzew currently sit sixth in the Ekstraklasa table after 25 games, although they have failed to win in their last four.
