Suspension means Harry Kane may miss Bayern Munich title win

The curse looks to continue for England captain Harry Kane who, despite being set to end his long wait for a major-trophy, won't be on the pitch if Bayern Munich seal the Bundesliga trophy next week due to suspension.

Bayern could have won the title on Saturday, but Bayer Leverkusen's victory over Augsburg meant that the title race will go into Matchday 32.

Kane picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 3-0 win over Mainz, a result which moves Bayern to within one victory of regaining the title they lost to Leverkusen last season.

With eight points separating the top two, and nine to play for across the final three games of the campaign, even defeat would see Bayern crowned champions if Leverkusen were to lose at Freiburg.

It means that the title is likely heading back to the Allianz Arena, in what would be a record-extending 33rd Bundesliga trophy for Bayern. For Kane, however, this would mark the first major trophy of his career.

Adding medals to his remarkable goal tally - for both club and country- was one of the major motivations behind his move to Bayern two years ago, looking to put to bed any notions of a "curse" around his career when it came to collecting silverware.

You would think that now having to leave it in the hands of his teammates to get their side over the line would leave a bitter taste in the 31-year-old's mouth, especially considering his league-leading 24 goals have contributed so much to the cause.

Despite the obvious disappointment, that's far from the case, however.

"It's kind of my story that I'll miss the Leipzig game," said Kane after the win over Mainz. But no worries, I'll celebrate more than anyone else."
