We have to say the calibre of player Rangers are being linked with seems questionable at best, and we’re not taking too many of the stories like Sakara or Charlton’s Doughty terribly seriously.
Rangers’ standards are extremely high now, this is a club consistently in the last 32 of the Europa League and sailing clear on top of the SPL, so we are pretty sure a manager who has been bringing in guys like Defoe, Balogun, Itten and Ianis Hagi, to name just four, is aiming a little higher than a Championship winger like Doughton who reports claim sees a three way tussle between ourselves, Celtic and the mighty Stoke.
In short, we think we can do and indeed attract a lot better now than these guys, but of course equally if our manager thinks they are good enough, then we’d happily kowtow to his judgement.
Truly, it is silly season, and everyone and his dog is going to get linked with a January move to Rangers especially with the injury issues we have at present over Ryan Jack (returning soon hopefully), Scott Arfield (out till mid-February at least) and Kemar Roofe (out for a few matches).
So these names appearing in the press isn’t a huge shock, but we would certainly hope anyone who does arrive this month is a bit better than those being touted for the switch at present.
Rangers standards must be improved, and when yesteryear Lassana Coulibaly and Ovi Ejaria were the standard we appeared to be at, nowadays it’s Glen Kamara.
And that’s what we expect going forward.
