ATK Mohun Bagan superstar, Roy Krishna has revealed that he is excited by the prospect of playing in front of their home crowd for the first time when the Indian footballing giants take on Blue Star SC in their AFC Cup preliminary round 2 match at the Salt Lake Stadium, in Kolkata, on April 12
Krishna who left for national duty after the Mariners' loss in the semifinal stage in the Indian Super League (ISL) last season, recently joined his fellow team-mates at the prepatory camp in Kolkata. For the first time in over two years, the club will be playing a home match, with the presence of the fans making it even more special.
“I am excited to play in front of the fans who supported me throughout the season on Instagram, Facebook. We have seen the excitement on television and on youtube, but we are now getting an opportunity to play in front of them. Anyhow, we need to win the match, I need to score. I am aware that everyone would be expecting me to score. I can assure that I will try my best," he said as quoted by ISL's official website.
The 34-year-old who won the Golden Ball award in the 2020/21 season and is arguably the club's best player, reiterated that the main aim of the club is to not only qualify for the AFC Cup, but to win it this time around.
“Almost all the players have joined the camp, and they are in good shape. Winning the AFC Cup is our target. Foremost, we have to get past the group stage and even before that, the preliminary round matches. We are taking it one game at a time," the striker added.
Despite not having the best of times on the pitch last season, the striker still managed to score seven goals and provide four assists as ATK were beaten in the semifinal stage by eventual winners, Hyderabad FC.
