Wojciech Szczęsny names the Barcelona star who has ‘surprised me most’ | OneFootball

New Barcelona signing Wojciech Szczęsny has this week named youngster Pau Cubarsí as the player who has left him most ‘surprised’ during his early time with the club.

Goalkeeper Szczęsny is for his part fresh off his first week back in the professional game, after stepping out of retirement to pen terms with Barcelona.

The Pole, in turn, has been afforded a first-hand, up close look at his new teammates in action on the training pitch.

Speaking to the media this week, the question of the player whose talents have surprised him most in Catalunya’s capital was in turn put to Szczęsny himself.

And the 34-year-old did not hesitate in highlighting defensive prodigy Pau Cubarsí as the teammate in question.

In quotes gathered by Fabrizio Romano, Szczęsny pointed towards the Spaniard’s toughness and no-nonsense nature on the pitch as having left him altogether surprised:

“Pau Cubarsí is the player who surprised me the most!. I expected him to be a modern type of elegant defender on the ball, but softer. But when you see him live… he is actually not soft at all and makes very good decisions”.
