Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that the save after the penalty stop was more difficult in his side’s 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia.
The Juventus man was at the centre of events yesterday, as his saves were key in helping Poland pick up a 2-0 win and it handed them a big chance of making it to the next round of the FIFA World Cup. Their next game will see them take on Argentina, who beat Mexico.
After the win over Saudi Arabia, Szczesny spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport and he gave his views about the penalty save:
“The second save was much more difficult and decisive, even if avoiding a penalty at the World Cup is the best. We goalkeepers can’t score, but we score goals like this.”
The Juventus man also spoke about the upcoming clash against Leo Messi’s Argentina and he stated: “You come to the World Cup to compete with the strongest in the world, and with all due respect to the Saudi Arabian players, I want to compete with the best.”
In the interview, Szczesny also gave credit to Juve’s goalkeeping coach Claudio Filippi for helping him improve when it comes to shot-stopping.
