Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny has sent a message of encouragement the way of teammate Iñaki Peña on Wednesday evening.
This comes after the Pole was again named in Barcelona’s starting XI for the club’s meeting with Atalanta.
The subject of the goalkeeper situation in Hansi Flick’s squad has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several weeks now.
This comes after free agent signing Wojciech Szczęsny, somewhat out of the blue, was afforded no.1 status in the Blaugrana’s ranks.
After Iñaki Peña was depended on for several months following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the Spaniard, through no real fault of his own, was in turn relegated to backup duties.
As much is understood to have hit Peña hard, with the 25-year-old having looked visibly affected over the last couple of weeks.
Speaking to the media ahead of kick-off against Atalanta this evening, the name of his fellow shot-stopper was therefore put to Wojciech Szczęsny.
And the former Arsenal and Juventus man made use of the opportunity to throw his backing behind Peña:
“I make sure that Inaki Pena is prepared for the future he has ahead of him at Barça. I am here to help.”
