VfL Wolfsburg players spoke to the media, following their 1-0 away victory in Mönchengladbach on Saturday afternoon.
Forward Lukas Nmecha, who scored the match-deciding goal in his final appearance in a Wolfsburg uniform, said regarding the fact that all three of his goals in the 2024 / 25 season have come against Die Fohlen: “Sometimes, that is how it happens. In the first match, I also got some great assists from my teammates, the goals were very similar. I needed to concentrate on positioning, and then after that, I can meet the crosses quite well”.
Nmecha also credited Mohamed Amoura for the beautiful assist in the build-up to his goal: “I am very satisfied with the result, very happy and I have to thank Mo [Amoura]. That was a great ball; I had to make good on the chance I missed in the first half, and thanks to Mo, I was able to do just that.”
Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer said to club representatives, minutes after the result: “Of course we finish the season with a win, but we are unhappy with our position [in the table] at the end - but today we fight, we showed that we can create chances, and that is very good."
Captain of the club, Maximilian Arnold said to the media after coming back from a two-match suspension, “It is really nice to give back to the fans, to give back for their tortured souls. It is a great feeling, and I keep saying that there is nothing greater than winning a match in Bundesliga.”
He added regarding the overall performance in their season, “We also know, of course, that we could have done better; nevertheless, I need to be honest, and need to say that we have not succeeded on a regular basis. That is why we can say about today's performance that it was another great moment for our fans.”
He finished by saying, “These away matches that we had this season, there were so many that you just have to say that it was really nice to see, whether it was in Bremen, in Leipzig, here, or in Freiburg. If we can give the fans another gift today with a win, if you can put another smile on their faces… that is why we play football, to be honest.”
VfL Wolfsburg finish eleventh in the 2024 / 25 Bundesliga season, with an 11-10-13 record, 43 points with a +2 goal differential (45-43). This victory was their first in ten matches, and their first win under U19 head coach and senior interim coach Daniel Bauer, who went 1-1-0 over two matches of work.
