Wolfsburg will be without Lovro Majer for the foreseeable future after the Bundesliga club confirmed on Monday that the Croatian midfielder suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle during their win against Holstein Kiel on Saturday.
Majer was treated on the pitch for several minutes before leaving the pitch with VfL’s medical department with a heavily bandaged ankle.
Currently with the Croatian national team after consultation with Wolfsburg, Majer will undergo further treatment with both medical teams working in conjunction with one another.
Majer (26) has excelled this season, scoring a brace against Bayern Munich on opening day. The Croatian playmaker caused Bayern several problems and after a difficult first campaign in Germany, looked to have finally settled in following his €25m move from Rennes last summer.
This setback will certainly be a blow to Wolfsburg, who will look to return to European football for the first time since the 2021/22 season.
