David Ornstein broke the news for The Athletic on Monday night that Wolverhampton Wanderers had made an offer to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal.

Wolves’ offer was an initial loan with an option to buy, though they would be committing to covering the majority of Ramsdale’s wages during the loan spell.

Even so, Ornstein added that the deal was viewed as difficult to do from Wolves’ side. Arsenal would reportedly prefer to sell Ramsdale rather than accepting a loan, and they also have interest from Ajax and Southampton. Yet talks with Wolves are ongoing.

Liam Keen of the Express & Star reports that the deal is complicated, and as it stands it’s not close to being completed. The two clubs are a long way from an agreement and more negotiation is expected in the coming days.

In terms of the other interested clubs, Ornstein previously reported that Arsenal had turned down an initial loan offer from Ajax, though he said that the club remained interested and optimistic.

Alex Crook reported for talkSPORT in early August that the goalkeeper is high on the shortlists of Wolves, Nottingham Forest, and Southampton. Wolves have now made their move, perhaps the other two will follow.

Ramsdale is yet to feature for Arsenal since returning from England duty, with David Raya playing both pre-season friendlies upon their returns and then starting the opening game against Wolves.

Raya put in a very strong performance against Wolves, making a couple of great saves and playing out from the back effectively as usual. It doesn’t look like Mikel Arteta is set to change his thinking on the number-one spot at the club.
