Southampton striker Che Adams could wait until after the European Championships to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Saints' striker finds himself out of contract at St Mary's this summer - and there is currently plenty of uncertainty regarding his future.

With the player yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, it seems likely that he will be leaving the south-coast side in the coming weeks or months, but that isn't certain at this stage.

Russell Martin is keen to retain the 27-year-old and following the club's play-off final win against Leeds United last weekend, he may have a better chance of retaining one of his key strikers.

Retaining Adams could prove to be important, with Paul Onuachu likely to leave the south-coast side during the summer window following his loan spell in Turkey last season.

With Onuachu potentially on his way out and Sekou Mara's future potentially uncertain considering the fact he wasn't a key player for the Saints during the 2023/24 campaign, more quality and depth may be required in this department if Adams leaves.

Even without Adams' departure, another striker could be required, so the promoted club will be hoping to give themselves less to do by keeping hold of one of their key players.

Although they generated plenty of money in player sales last summer, they have already spent a reported £20m on Taylor Harwood-Bellis and won't want to splash the cash too much as they look to remain within financial rules.

And bringing in an adequate replacement for Adams won't be cheap, considering his quality and effectiveness in the final third.

Adams is in Scotland's provisional squad for the European Championships, which are set to take place in Germany next month.

It seems likely that he will be included in Steve Clarke's final squad and that will mean that he will be away with his national team until at least June 23rd, when they take on Hungary in their final group game.

Although Tutto Mercato Web believes he's potentially just one step away from joining Wolves, they have also reported that he could wait until after the Euros to make a decision on his future.

Che Adams should look to have clarity on his future as soon as possible

Adams needs to make a decision on his future before the Euros for two key reasons.

Firstly, he's out of contract and if he sustains a serious injury during his time in Germany, he doesn't have a contract to fall back on.

If he signs for a new club, he will have a long-term contract and with that, long-term financial security, something that could only be a good thing for the striker.

Secondly, his future may be playing on his mind during the Euros and that won't help him to maximise his performance levels.

It seems logical for him to make a decision on where he will be playing next season before he gets on the plane.
