Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood has said there is ‘no secret’ to the club’s performances but hard work this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side rose to second in the Premier League table on Sunday, as goals from Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White secured a 2-0 win at Everton. Having narrowly escaped relegation last season, Forest have emerged as the surprise package of the campaign.

They’ve already won more games (11) and earned more points (37) than they did across the entirety of last season.

The win at Everton was a fifth consecutive victory in the Premier League for Forest. It’s the club’s longest run of top-flight wins in 29 years.

Such has been their consistency, Forest have placed themselves in contention for European qualification, an achievement Woods admits would be a ‘dream’ for the squad. Forest have not competed in continental competition since the 1995/96 UEFA Cup.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live at full-time, Wood attributed Forest’s performances this season to hard work on the training ground.

“No secret – it is about working hard and doing well as a team. It was a hard fought victory today, but a nice one. It is about taking your opportunities when it comes and fortunately I was able to do that.

“We have been dominant in our attacking force both starting and on the bench.”

On being second and potentially securing European football, Wood added: “It is nice, but we are not worried about that. We have got to keep focusing on what we are doing and take it game by game.

“For the club and the fans it (European football) is the dream. It’s the Premier League and it’s the toughest league in the world.”
