Canada finished bottom of their World Cup group in a campaign that was not expected to be a bright one for the North American outfit.

John Herdman’s side did well in the first game and came close to shocking many against Belgium, but their performances faded away in the games later. Against Morocco, the Maple Leafs put in a poor performance and the defensive showing was pretty much indicative of their tournament.

Having said that, it will act as a solid foundation for football in Canada to grow and show a younger generation that the nation can perhaps compete against the very best of the game.

Biggest disappointment: Considering how light Canada looked in midfield in the second game onwards, Stephen Eustáquio was a big miss and his injury proved to be a vital turning point in Canada’s campaign. He was very impressive against Belgium and things could have been different, if he had stayed fit.

Most important player: While Eustaquio was impressive, that was only true for one game because that is the only game he played. Alphonso Davies though, was key and as it was expected, he was their most important player. He played in a variety of positions and even though he missed a penalty against Belgium, he was important in creating chances in the final third.

Grade: C – It could have been better, but atleast one performance was memorable.
