Sheffield United, West Brom and Stoke City are said to be interested in Leicester City striker Tom Cannon.

Pundit Carlton Palmer believes Sheffield United would be a better move than West Bromwich Albion or Stoke City for Leicester City striker Tom Cannon.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Sheffield United, West Brom and Stoke are all keen to sign Cannon if he is allowed to leave the King Power Stadium on loan this summer.

Cannon joined Leicester from Everton in September for a fee of £7.5 million, but he struggled for game time last season, and his future at the club is uncertain after he made just one substitute appearance in the final two months of the campaign, frequently being left out of the matchday squad altogether.

It remains to be seen whether Cannon will be handed an opportunity in the Premier League under new Foxes boss Steve Cooper, and a number of Championship clubs are waiting on the Welshman's decision.

Cannon scored eight goals in 21 appearances during a loan spell at Preston North End in the 2022-23 season, and it was claimed earlier in the summer that the Lilywhites are looking to bring him back to Deepdale, while Blackburn Rovers were also linked with the 21-year-old.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Palmer said that if Cannon does not return to Preston this summer, he believes Sheffield United would be the best move for the striker.

"Leicester's young striker, Tom Cannon, is in demand coming up to the start of the season," Palmer said.

"Sheffield United, West Brom and Stoke, along with Preston, are keen to acquire his services.

"Steve Cooper has had him in the building over pre-season to have a look at him, but it seems the 20-year-old will be allowed to go out on loan.

"Where do I see him going? I think he's obviously very keen on Preston, he did really well there, but Sheffield United will be challenging at the top end of the Championship next season. "You would also expect West Brom to be up there, and Stoke could be dark horses, so any of these sides would be a good move for Cannon. "But you always look at where you're going to play your best football, and he did ever so well for Ryan Lowe and Preston, so it wouldn't surprise me if he heads back there.

"Other than that, if he doesn't go back there, I would say Sheffield United under Chris Wilder would be a good move for him."

Tom Cannon priority will be game-time following frustrating 2023-24 season

After a frustrating year at Leicester, Cannon will be desperate to play regular football next season.

While Palmer is right that Sheffield United would likely be the most attractive move for Cannon, there are question marks over whether he would receive enough game time at Bramall Lane with competition for places from Kieffer Moore, Rhian Brewster and Will Osula, although the latter has been linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Cannon could face similar issues at West Brom, who have Brandon Thomas-Asante and Josh Maja on their books, so of the clubs reported to be interested, Stoke and PNE may be the able to guarantee him the most minutes.
