The banking giant first partnered with the Women’s Super League in 2019 before adding the Women’s Championship to their commercial portfolio in 2022. Both leagues will now continue to be known as the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship for an extended period with the sponsorship deal having been renewed.
The new deal is said to be the biggest in women’s domestic football history and sees Barclays double their investment in the sport.
Speaking following this morning’s announcement, Nikki Doucet, CEO of Women’s Professional Leagues Limited said “Barclays has been a leading light when it comes to supporting women’s football and they become a founding partner for WPLL as we embark on a transformational journey to grow the game.
“This record multi-year investment demonstrates long-term commitment and is important because it provides positive endorsement and increased support for what we are trying to accomplish.”
The WPLL completed their takeover of the Women’s Professional Leagues from The Football Association just a few weeks ago. The ambitious group plan to grow the professional game to a level that it has never reached before.
