Humphrey Ker has suggested that Vardy is not one of the club's targets.

Wrexham chief Humphrey Ker has dismissed speculation linking the club with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Patrick Bamford and Tom Cairney.

Speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Ker strongly denied that Wrexham were plotting moves for any of the trio.

After securing promotion back to the second tier for the first time in 43 years, the Red Dragons have already been linked with several players, including the three referenced by Ker.

There were even reports that the Welsh outfit had offered Fulham's club captain, Cairney, a contract worth £50,000-per-week in wages.

Wrexham are not targeting Vardy, Bamford or Cairney

Despite Wrexham being linked with Vardy and Bamford, according to Ker, neither are genuine targets for the club. The Wrexham chief also suggested that have been discussions as of yet for a move for Cairney.

After being asked by radio host, Moyles, whether his club were targeting a move for departing Leicester City frontman, Vardy, Ker firmly refuted that suggestion, without hesitation.

His response was equally similar when Bamford’s name was raised.

The 42-year-old then acknowledged the fact that Wrexham’s rapidly increasing reputation and exposure within the game means they are now regularly being linked with big-name players who haven’t even been on the club’s radar.

He said: “One thing is that, much like the name Ryan Reynolds, the name Wrexham generates clicks. We are starting now to get linked with absolutely everybody.”

Ker went on to suggest that he expects the club to continue to be involved in these kinds of links throughout the summer transfer window.

The Wrexham chief also added that although he feels Cairney is “a brilliant player,” there have been no talks from within the club about bringing him to North Wales at this moment in time.

Wrexham will surely be active in the transfer market

While this current set of links has been quashed by Ker, they will surely be far from the last at the Racecourse Ground this summer.

Having climbed three divisions in the space of three years, the Red Dragons will surely need several additions to the squad to help them compete in the Championship, especially since their goal will likely be more than just survival in the second tier.

The likes of Ollie Rathbone and Jay Rodriguez, who have joined the club within the last year, having already had prior experience of the Championship, will undoubtedly be capable of making the step up.

However, for players like Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer and Jacob Mendy, who have been with the club since their National League days and have never plied their trade above League One, it will likely prove to be a step too far.

Wrexham have tended to opt for experience in their signings throughout their rise up the leagues, but with several seasoned Championship players likely to be commanding big wages at other clubs, it’s possible that they could now alter their approach slightly.

Whoever Wrexham end up bringing in during the window, it seems highly likely that survival alone will not be enough for a club who have set such high standards for themselves in recent years.
