Although Chelsea have a transfer ban hanging over them this summer, Dutch defender Xavier Mbuyamba’s agent claimed they could still sign him.
Last week, FIFA confirmed that following an appeal, they are still upholding the Blues’ ban on registering new players.
The MVV Maastricht youngster has been linked with Chelsea along with a host of other European clubs and his agent shed some light on Mbuyamba’s future.
“He’d prefer to play in the first team somewhere but there aren’t many central defenders of his age who get that chance,” Carlos Barros told Voetbal International.
“So it is about a choice where he can best develop as a youngster. At the moment, Chelsea have the best credentials.
“We have to wait and see how he feels about that club and we’re not sure yet what we’re going to do as his development is most important.
“The people at Chelsea are looking what is possible due to the ban.
“It isn’t being ruled out that Mbuyamba might not even be covered by the ban because he’s still an amateur but that’s guessing.”
Celtic, Porto, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also all been credited with an interest in the 17-year-old.
