The Houston Dash announced the signing of Yazmeen Ryan, a big move in the NWSL market. A trade with NJ/NY Gotham FC included $400,000 in allocation money and an international roster spot for 2025. The Dash also received $80,000 in intra-league transfer funds for the 2025 season in return, along with a player who has already proved her ability in critical moments.

A player with potential to make an impact

Yazmeen Ryan comes to the Dash off the back of a strong 2024 NWSL campaign. The forward appeared 27 times, showing how she can apply high levels of pressure to win possession back - a tactical trait the Texas club has not had.

Erik Ustruck, the Dash’s interim general manager, emphasized the importance of Ryan’s addition: “Yazmeen’s versatility and work ethic are traits every team needs. She fits perfectly into the profile we’re building here and is committed to helping us achieve something significant in the coming years.”

Experience and familiarity

Beyond her on-field contributions, Ryan also provides a key link to another recent Dash signing in Delanie Sheehan. The pair were teammates with Gotham last season, and this familiarity could help both players integrate into the new squad.

Sheehan, signed with the Dash through 2026, is another cog in the club's rebuild following a disappointing 2024 campaign that saw the team miss the NWSL playoffs.

Achievements and stats

Since turning professional in 2021 with Portland Thorns, Yazmeen Ryan has compiled a long list of achievements: key player in NWSL Championships in 2022 and 2023, having scored the winning goal in last season's quarterfinals.

Her regular performances brought her into the spotlight of the USWNT, for which she started to play with the senior team in 2024.

In league play, Ryan finished the past season with five goals and six assists, making her a force on offense. In total, she has played in 82 NWSL matches, netting nine goals and providing 12 assists.

Ryan's role in the Dash's tactic

As the team is looking for consistency on the pitch, signing an experienced tactically versatile player like Ryan is exactly the kind of move the Dash needed.

That experience of performing in high-pressure moments and her experience of championship-winning teams contribute so much value to a club that's still looking to establish itself as one of the dominant forces of the NWSL.

A defining moment for the Dash

Yazmeen Ryan joins Houston Dash in their rebuilding process and a high expectation phase, so her experience plus the ability to adapt into various styles of play will position her to help the Dash take a leap forward.

“I’m excited to be part of this project,” Ryan said. “I know what it takes to compete in the NWSL, and I’m ready to work hard, collaborate with my teammates, and pursue trophies for the Dash.”

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on how these new additions, including Ryan, can help the Dash achieve better results in the league.
