‘You played well son’ – George Galloway praises Lyon’s Malick Fofana | OneFootball

Last night, a ten-man Olympique Lyonnais put in a spirited performance as they were eliminated from the Europa League quarter-finals by Manchester United following 30 minutes of extra time. And one of their young starlets, Malick Fofana (20), even earned the praise of a former UK Member of Parliament.

On X, George Galloway, the former MP for Rochdale and Manchester United supporter, had kind words for the young Belgian winger. Galloway commented, “You played well son,” under a post reporting quotes from Fofana published by Get French Football News.

Fofana looked to have given Lyon daylight when he was brought down by Luke Shaw for a penalty in the second half of extra time. Alexandre Lacazette stepped up to the spot to give Lyon a two-goal lead (4-2, 6-4 on aggregate). However, Manchester United would mount a last-gasp comeback, scoring three to make the score 5-4 on the night and 7-6 on aggregate.

Manchester United will now play Athletic Club in the semi-finals, while Tottenham Hotspur and Bodo/Glimt will meet in the other side of the bracket.
