‘You’re expected to win’: Despite World Cup carrot, Socceroos hero Redmayne focused on A-League campaign | OneFootball

It’s been an incredible off-season for Andrew Redmayne. His penalty shootout heroics against Peru have been well-documented, but the Grey Wiggle says it’s now time to put his head down and focus on club football.

Speaking to Kick360 ahead of the huge opening round Big Blue at Allianz Stadium, Redmayne makes it clear he’s concentrating on Sydney FC despite the World Cup being so tantalisingly close.

“I feel really good,” he explains.

“I’ve worked really hard over the off-season – that’s what I pride myself on. I consider myself a hard-working guy, and those are the values I like to think I live up to.

“I’m focused on Sydney FC.”

Manager Steve Corica has bolstered his squad, with Robert Mak, Joe Lolley and Diego Caballo joining from overseas, and former Premier League star Jack Rodwell moving across town from CommBank Stadium. Corica has implemented a new 4-3-3 formation and it’s going to be a significantly different starting 11 in 2022-23.

Then there are youth players including the likes of Jaiden Kucharski, Adrian Segecic, Patrick Yazbek and Aaron Gurd who are on the cusp of cementing themselves as key players in Moore Park.

According to the Sky Blues’ No.1, there’s plenty to be excited about as Sydney christen the resplendent Allianz Stadium and look to be back amongst the trophies after a year out in the cold in 2021-22.

“I really like how (our team) is shaping up for the season,” Redmayne says.

“I’ve spoken about how Jack has played at the highest level. But Joe Lolley was part of a team that got promoted to the Premier League last season – that in itself is an amazing achievement. (There’s) Robbie Mak, Alex Parsons and the like. We’ve got some real young talent in there. I’m really looking forward to seeing how everything gels and how the season goes.

“As a team we nut out goals to strive for. When you’re wearing a Sydney FC shirt, you’re expected to win. It’s a new season, a new team, and I think we’re looking good to rectify last season.”
