New Inter signing Piotr Zielinski ‘can’t wait’ to start after leaving Napoli as a free agent. ‘It is an honour to be at one of the best clubs in the world.’

The Poland international midfielder had agreed terms many months ago and even had his medical as early as February, because it was clear he would not renew his contract with Napoli beyond June 30.

He was finally announced by the Nerazzurri today and put pen to paper on a deal to June 2028.

“I am very happy because I am joining one of the best clubs in the world. It is an honour for me, I can’t wait to get started,” Zielinski told the official Inter channel.

“The Inter midfield is truly the strength of this team, so I will try to give my contribution to make the side even stronger.”

Zielinski an old hand at Calcio

The 30-year-old has been in Italian football since coming to the Udinese youth academy in 2011, then spent eight years at Napoli, so he is no stranger to the Nerazzurri or the iconic San Siro atmosphere.

“They were always tough games against Inter, a well-organised team with so much quality. They press really well, as soon as they lose the ball, they are ready to be aggressive and win it back. This was the key, along with the general quality of the squad.

“I’ve been in Italy for 12 years and I am very happy to continue my career here. I am the first Poland international to wear this prestigious jersey and will try to do my best to achieve great results.”

Inter won the Scudetto last season under coach Simone Inzaghi, while it was Zielinski’s Napoli who were Champions of Italy the year before that.

“I will give everything to make the Inter fans happy. The stadium is wonderful, one of the most beautiful in Italy. I’ll do all I can to show my quality and bring more trophies to the club.”

According to various reports, Zielinski will earn €4.5m per season net on his new Inter contract.
