Former Zulte Waregem goalkeeper Sammy Bossut has announced his retirement from football. The goalkeeper made 473 appearances for the side from 2006 until when he left the club in 2023. He decided to return to the club where he began his career with KRC Harelbeke in the lower reaches of the Belgian football pyramid. He will retire at the end of the current season.

Bossut should, in every sense of the word, be considered a legend of Zulte Waregem. He was their main goalkeeper during the sides golden era, which saw them go from the lower reaches of Belgian football to the Pro League. During his time at the club the side won a cup in 2017 and reached the final in 2014. The side came the closest it ever has to winning the Pro League during the 2012-2013 season, losing out to Anderlecht on the final day of the season. Bossut also made a number of appearances in Europe for the side as they qualified for the Europa League a handful of times.

Bossut also earned one cap for the Belgian national team, which came during a friendly against Luxembourg in May of 2014.
