This pair may well be on their way out of Home Park during the next 12 months
Plymouth Argyle face a big few months ahead of them as it stands, with the Greens looking to turn their season around and escape relegation for the second year in a row.
The Wayne Rooney experiment didn’t work, and the Pilgrims need to right the wrongs of the first half of the season before too long, and that involves bringing in new faces, and waving goodbye to players who have given their all during their time in Devon.
Andre Gray is one man who has already set sail since 2025 got underway, with the former Luton Town striker departing Home Park at the conclusion of his short-term contract in the south west, having netted three times in his 13 appearances upon his return to the English game.
The next 12 months will likely see more stars follow him out of the exit door at the Theatre of Greens, with these two players’ futures hanging in the balance as it stands.
With Adam Randell and Darko Gyabi considered the first-choice pairing in the middle of the park this season, Adam Forshaw has found game time hard to come by in the 24/25 campaign, with just a handful of starts to his name so far.
Having joined from Norwich City in the January transfer window of 2024, the 33-year-old is thought to have signed a contract until this summer, and looks unlikely to be offered an extension to that deal on current viewing.
Time seems to be catching up with the former Leeds United man, with a complete 90 minutes from the midfielder something of a rarity these days, and his place in the Home Park hierarchy lower than he would like.
If Argyle do drop down into League One he may be considered an option, but the Devon side can find better talents out there right now, and it would be no surprise to see his departure announced before the next campaign gets underway.
As Football League World exclusively revealed earlier this month, Ryan Hardie is a wanted man in the January transfer window, with League One duo Wrexham and Huddersfield Town both said to be keen on the Scotsman.
Having been picked up on a free from Blackpool following two successful loan spells, the frontman has played a huge part in propelling the Greens back to the second tier, although his recent form has been abject to say the least.
With no goal from open play in the league since February, Hardie has struggled to find the back of the net as of late, although that hasn’t stopped the pair of third tier promotion pushers from debating whether to meet his £2 million buy-out clause this winter.
With 18 months left on his current deal, it seems inevitable that the Pilgrims will cash in on their attacker while 2025 still tops the calendars, with a handsome sum of money coming their way as a result.
To make that happen, Argyle will want to add to their forward line first, with Gray’s departure leaving Michael Obafemi as the only other option right now, although Muhamed Tijani looks set for a return from a lengthy injury layoff soon.
Throw another striker into the mix, and Hardie could well be on his way before too long, with the Green Army likely to wish him well after his contribution towards their success over the past five years.
