Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up the potential transfer of Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes as they look for solutions in that position.

Sources recently told CaughtOffside that Man Utd are making a new left-back a priority position to strengthen in their squad, with Ben Chilwell and Alvaro Carreras among the names they’re looking at.

The Red Devils have had issues with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in that department, with both their current left-backs proving highly injury prone and unreliable, so someone like Mendes would surely be an upgrade.

The talented 22-year-old is being linked with United by the Daily Mail, who note that he’s already previously played under new MUFC manager Ruben Amorim at Sporting Lisbon.

That could mean Mendes is the perfect fit for this new-look United side, as he’d be able to adapt well to Amorim’s use of wing-backs in a 3-4-3 formation.

Nuno Mendes looks like just what Manchester United need

Mendes might be an ideal option for United, but it could be quite an ambitious move as PSG surely won’t be too keen to let the Portugal international leave.

Despite still being young, Mendes has already impressed in spells with both Sporting and PSG, winning an impressive four league titles in his career already.

If Mendes could continue to perform at a high level at Old Trafford, perhaps he could bring that winning touch with him and help get United back to where they want to be.

It remains to be seen how much this deal would realistically cost, but it surely won’t come cheap, with PSG surely likely to do all they can to avoid selling a top young player to another major European club.

Still, they did eventually agree to let Manuel Ugarte leave the Parc des Princes for a move to United this summer, so perhaps these clubs can find a way to do business again.
